First Annual Performance Review Eugene City Manager Jon Ruiz

On behalf of the Council of the City of Eugene, we invite you to contribute to the first annual performance review of City Manager Jon Ruiz.

The City Council is requesting feedback from community members and City employees who have had an opportunity to interact with the City Manager in his official capacity over the past year. They would like your input as a neighborhood leader. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts. The deadline for submitting comments is Friday, June 26, 2009.

City Manager Jon Ruiz's goals for his first year in this position were:

* To connect with the community by getting to know and understand all parts of the community.
* Foster positive, constructive relationships and partnerships between Mayor, Council, Staff and community.
* Focus the organization on what can be accomplished, not on what can't be done.
* Encourage innovation and creativity in the organization.
* Build financial stability and sustainability.
* Prepare the community and City organization for the Next Economy.
* Root and integrate sustainability, human rights and neighborhood values as a "way of doing business" throughout the organization.

The Council is interested your perspectives of:
* Accomplishments of the City Manager towards his goals
* Recommendations of how he can improve his performance next year

You can contribute by emailing: cmevalcommunity@ci.eugene.or.us
As neighborhood leaders, we invite you to share this email with others from your neighborhood who might like to contribute.

Your responses will be summarized with others in this group by Denise Smith in Human Resources. If you would like your name to be kept confidential (to the extent allowed by law), please note at the end of your email "requesting confidentiality". These summaries will be used to inform the Council's collective performance review and included in the final document.

Thank you for contributing to this important process.

Will, thanks for posting this.

Well, I think it's fair to say that Mr Ruiz hasn't done such a great job in the PR department over the past year. I consistently get the impression that he pushes things through dictator-style rather than aiming for transparency, accountability, and community input. And I don't get the impression that he's a thoughtful guy who weighs out all the possibilities.

Let's see what he says in July, and let's think about what we'd like to ask him instead of being taken in by his "charm."
